1. General information

1.1. Aims of the course

The course and its expected results respond to the following approaches and objectives:
The subject should allow students to approach the artistic production developed throughout the twentieth century, with presence in the first half of the century and the knowledge of the different artistic styles, techniques and working methods in Art History. Students must be able to recognize the different methods of artistic analysis, as well as to reach a basic knowledge of contemporary artistic reality that at the same time fosters their own creativity through autonomous learning. In the same way, students must develop a correct oral and written communication in artistic terms. This subject should develop their capacity for analysis, synthesis, organization and planning.
From this subject, students must achieve different level objectives, such as knowing how to correctly use the specific vocabulary of the discipline in the analysis of the different works of art. Similarly, students must know how to distinguish the main ideas from those that are secondary or depend on the first. Another of the level objectives that students must achieve with the subject of Theory and History of 20th Century Art is that they must know how to correctly relate concepts and be able to correctly express in writing the knowledge they have acquired.
In the same way, students must know the work methodology of the discipline in order to get used to documentation work (individually or in groups) and acquire reading habits. Likewise, students must develop a critical capacity with respect to the works and authors analyzed with the aim of acquiring perceptive habits, given the visual nature of the work of art and its position as an object of study of the History of Art, so that they develop a fundamental sensitivity towards works of art, so that they can enjoy and value them and acquire the habit of visiting museums and collections outside school hours.
Another objective is that students are able to know, understand and interpret the current cultural and social situation, as well as enhance the personal ability to update knowledge and processes to assess and enhance the quality of their own work.
One of the objectives of this subject is that students master the formal analysis of works belonging to different artistic manifestations, differentiating their specific characteristics. Likewise, students must know how to contextualize the work of art in the historical and cultural framework in which it was created, as well as to know the most significant works and artists of each period. The aim of this course is for students to be able to relate the work of art with other contemporary cultural manifestations, such as theater, literature or music, which are fundamental to deepen their knowledge of artistic styles and contemporary artistic reality.
Likewise, students must be able to correctly analyze the texts and sources selected by the teacher for the study of works of art, as well as identify the techniques and materials with which an artistic work has been made and be able to reconstruct the process of execution of the same, as well as the techniques and methods of work in Art History.
Likewise, students must be able to understand the importance and the way in which technical procedures condition the result of the work. It is essential that the students know how to use the bibliography provided by the teachers and extract the fundamental information that the bibliographic sources provide in each case.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), so that the acquisition of the learning outcomes of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement:

1.2. Context and importance of this course in the degree

This is a subject included in the first cycle of the Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, so it should be understood from a general and introductory point of view. The basic objective in this sense is to bring students closer to the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the artistic works made throughout the twentieth century.
The aim is therefore to introduce students to the history and theory of modern art from the late nineteenth century and during the twentieth century, through the exposure of a broad and comprehensive view of the heterogeneity of languages and means of artistic expression experienced in the context of the European avant-garde (paintings, sculptures, collages, objects, photographs, photomontages, films, graphic design, scenographies, exhibition spaces, etc.), insisting on the artistic and cultural aspects of the works of art that have been produced during this period. ), insisting on the theoretical contributions defended by the protagonists of the different isms through their manifestos.

To this end, it is necessary to emphasize the forms of study and interpretation of the works, and it is essential to become familiar with the use of appropriate artistic terminology, as well as historical and artistic diversity and multiculturalism so that students develop their capacity for analysis, synthesis, organization and planning. In the same way, students can develop their oral and written communication skills in their own language, as well as the treatment and management of information through autonomous learning in order to promote their creativity and knowledge of other cultures and customs.

1.3. Recommendations to take this course

Prerequisites: (previous knowledge and/or skills): Level of 2nd year of high school or similar and, preferably, having passed the subject Theory and History of Art of the 1st year of the Degree in Fine Arts. General knowledge of history and art and especially of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

3. Assessment (1st and 2nd call)

3.1. Assessment tasks (description of tasks, marking system and assessment criteria)

The students must demonstrate that they have achieved the expected learning outcomes through the following evaluation activities
Students will be evaluated using the continuous evaluation method, based on the participatory methodological system proposed for the course and three concepts will be taken into account in equal parts. Therefore, in order to be evaluated, students will have to carry out the following activities:
(a) Continuous evaluation system:
- Individual work (30%): analysis of a text at the end of the first block of content of the subject. The student must answer several questions about a reading indicated by the teacher at the beginning of the course.
- Practical report (30%): cataloging and commenting on several images at the end of the second block of the course. The student must identify, catalog and explain two or more images proposed by the teacher from among those previously analyzed in class.
- Exam (30 %): an exam at the end of the third block of contents. The exam will consist of the development of a topic to choose between two. The students will have to develop a topic proposed by the teacher in the indicated time.
-Tutoring and class participation (10%).
To qualify for the continuous evaluation it will be necessary to attend at least 85% of the classes.
Evaluation criteria: The correctness of the contents presented, the student's capacity for analysis and synthesis, his ability to make a reasoned and orderly exposition, as well as the proper use of artistic terminology, good presentation and formal and orthographic correctness will be assessed.
b) Global evaluation test (to be taken on the date set in the academic calendar)
- Exam (50%): Performance of an exam, in which the student must respond to two statements proposed by the teacher on different issues related to the subject matter of the course.
- Practice report (25%): Cataloging and commenting on several images belonging to any of the thematic blocks of the course. The student must identify, catalog and explain the images proposed by the teacher from among those previously analyzed in class. This written test, of a practical nature, will take place immediately after the exam.
- Individual work (25%): Performance of a theoretical test related to a text related to the subject. The student will have to answer several questions about a reading indicated by the teacher at the beginning of the course. The final work will be done at the end of the internship report.

II. Second call
Global evaluation test (to be taken on the date established in the academic calendar).
This global evaluation test will include the same tests as in the first call and its computation will be the same, reaching a total of 100%. The evaluation criteria are the same.

4. Methodology, learning tasks, syllabus and resources

4.1. Methodological overview

The learning process designed for this course is based on the following:
Combining the theoretical exposition of contents with the projection of audiovisual materials. Classes with presentation of images, complemented with the reading and interpretation of the main avant-garde manifestos and with the participation of the students, at the end of each lesson, through debate and critical reflection. When the occasion requires it, films and videos will be projected as a support to the teaching. Both the theoretical classes and the exercises are oriented to encourage student participation. The intervention of the students will be facilitated through debates and expositions in class. These expositions must be understood as a personal approach to the aspects dealt with in class and must be based on readings or critical analysis of the contents of the subject. Directed academic activities, with autonomous works (with information search, written, drawn and exposed reflection; debates and public presentations of works). Lectures, visits to buildings and museums and trips.

4.2. Learning tasks

The program offered to the student to help him/her achieve the expected outcomes comprises the following activities....
The program of training activities offered to students to achieve the expected learning outcomes is as follows:
1) Theoretical classes: they will adopt the format of oral presentations by the teaching staff of the theoretical contents of the subject in the classroom setting (lectures).
2) Practical classes (in the classroom or outside the classroom with the teaching staff). They will consist of:
-Practices of analysis, commentary and interpretation of images by projecting them and discussion in class, applying different methodologies.
-Commentary and analysis of the fundamental problems of the subject.
-Commentary and analysis of sources and texts.
-A programmed practical visit may be made to apply the knowledge acquired both in the classroom and through the personal work of the students, analyzing in the field the issues addressed in the theoretical and practical classes.
3) Personal study (assimilation of the contents exposed in the theoretical and practical classes, reading and study of the recommended bibliography, previous personal preparation of the commentaries and analysis of texts and sources), as well as the preparation of the practical activities and the personal work of the students.
4) Tutorials: the time dedicated to the orientation of the students' learning, to the discussion of the problems arisen in the development of the subject, and to the explanation and revision of the tasks entrusted to the students.
5) Performance of the evaluation tests.

- Geometric abstraction: Cubism, Futurism, Suprematism, Constructivism and Neoplasticism.
- Expressionism. The Bridge, The Blue Rider, The New Objectivity.
- Dadaism and Surrealism.
Topic 3. Second avant-garde of the twentieth century.
- Informalism.
- American Abstract Expressionism.
- Pop Art.
- Kinetic art.

4.4. Course planning and calendar

Provisional course planning

The exposition of contents will be done through the presentation or explanation by the teaching staff (and as far as possible by external collaborators when appropriate for a specific topic) but, in the same way, the instruction period will be based on oral or written contributions from the students. The theoretical classes will be accompanied by images and texts that correspond to what has been covered in class or any other material of interest to the students such as videos or documentaries.

1. Información Básica

1.1. Objetivos de la asignatura

La asignatura y sus resultados previstos responden a los siguientes planteamientos y objetivos:

La asignatura debe permitir al alumnado aproximarse a la producción artística desarrollada a lo largo del siglo XX, con presencia en la primera mitad de siglo y al conocimiento de los diferentes estilos artísticos, de las técnicas y de los métodos de trabajo en Historia del Arte. El estudiantado tiene que ser capaz de reconocer los diferentes métodos de análisis artísticos, así como alcanzar un conocimiento básico de la realidad artística contemporánea que al mismo tiempo fomente su propia creatividad mediante un aprendizaje autónomo. Del mismo modo, el alumnado debe desarrollar una correcta la comunicación oral y escrita en términos artísticos. Esta asignatura debe desarrollar su capacidad de análisis, de síntesis, de organización y de planificación.

A partir de esta asignatura el estudiantado tiene que conseguir diferentes objetivos de nivel, como saber utilizar correctamente el vocabulario específico de la disciplina en el análisis de las distintas obras de arte. Del mismo modo, el alumnado debe saber distinguir las ideas principales de las que son secundarias o dependen de las primeras. Otro de los objetivos de nivel que el estudiantado tiene que conseguir con la asignatura de Teoría e Historia del arte del siglo XX es que tiene que saber relacionar correctamente los conceptos y ser capaz de expresar por escrito de forma correcta los conocimientos adquiridos.

Del mismo modo, el alumnado tiene que conocer la metodología de trabajo propia de la disciplina con el fin de que se habitúe al trabajo de documentación (individualmente o en grupo) y adquiera hábitos de lectura. Igualmente, el estudiantado debe desarrollar una capacidad crítica respecto a las obras y autores analizados con el objetivo de que adquiera hábitos perceptivos, dada la naturaleza visual de la obra de arte y la posición de ésta como objeto de estudio de la Historia del Arte, para que desarrolle una sensibilidad fundamental hacia las obras de arte, de forma que pueda disfrutarlas y valorarlas y adquiera la costumbre de visitar museos y colecciones fuera del horario lectivo.

Otro de los objetivos es que el alumnado sea capaza de conocer, comprender e interpretar la situación cultural y social actual, así como potenciar la capacidad personal de actualizar los conocimientos y procesos para poder valorar y potenciar la calidad del trabajo propio.

Uno de los objetivos que se pretende en esta asignatura es que el estudiantado domine el análisis formal de las obras pertenecientes a distintas manifestaciones artísticas, diferenciando sus características concretas. Del mismo modo, el alumnado debe saber contextualizar la obra de arte en el marco histórico y cultural en el que se gestó, así como conocer las obras y artistas más significativos de cada período. Con esta asignatura se pretende que el estudiantado sepa relacionar la obra de arte con otras manifestaciones culturales coetáneas, como puede ser el teatro, la literatura o la música, fundamentales para ahondar en el conocimiento de los estilos artísticos y la realidad artística contemporánea.

Igualmente, el alumnado tiene que ser capaz de analizar de forma correcta los textos y fuentes seleccionadas por el profesorado para el estudio de las obras de arte, así como identificar las técnicas y materiales con los que ha sido realizada una obra artística y sea capaz de reconstruir el proceso de ejecución de la misma, así como las técnicas y métodos de trabajo en Historia del Arte.

De igual forma el alumnado tiene que ser capaz de comprender la importancia y el modo en que los procedimientos técnicos condicionan el resultado de la obra. Es fundamental que el estudiantado sepa utilizar la bibliografía proporcionada por el profesorado y extraer la información fundamental que las fuentes bibliográficas le proporcionan en cada caso.

Estos planteamientos y objetivos están alineados con los siguientes Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) de la Agenda 2030 de Naciones Unidas (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), de tal manera que la adquisición de los resultados de aprendizaje de la asignatura proporciona capacitación y competencia para contribuir en cierta medida a su logro:

Objetivo 4: Educación de calidad;

Objetivo 5: Igualdad de género;

Objetivo 10: Reducción de las desigualdades.

 

1.2. Contexto y sentido de la asignatura en la titulación

Esta es una asignatura incluida dentro del primer ciclo del Grado en Bellas Artes, por lo que debe entenderse desde un punto de vista general e introductorio. El objetivo básico en este sentido es el de aproximar al alumnado al conocimiento, comprensión y valoración de las obras artísticas realizadas a lo largo del siglo XX.

Se pretende por tanto introducir al alumnado en el conocimiento de la historia y de la teoría del arte moderno desde finales del siglo XIX y durante el siglo XX, mediante la exposición de una visión amplia y exhaustiva de la heterogeneidad de lenguajes y medios de expresión artísticos experimentados en el contexto de las vanguardias europeas (pinturas, esculturas, collages, objetos, fotografías, fotomontajes, films, diseño gráfico, escenografías, espacios expositivos, etc.), insistiendo en las aportaciones teóricas defendidas por los protagonistas de los diferentes ismos a través de sus manifiestos.

Para ello, es necesario incidir en las formas de estudio e interpretación de las obras, y resulta imprescindible familiarizarse con el uso de la terminología artística adecuada, así como la diversidad y la multiculturalidad histórica y artística con el fin de que el alumnado desarrolle su capacidad de análisis, síntesis, de organización y de planificación. Del mismo modo, el alumnado puede desarrollar su capacidad de comunicación oral y escrita en lengua propia, así como el tratamiento y gestión de la información mediante el aprendizaje autónomo con el fin de favorecer su creatividad y el conocimiento de otras culturas y costumbres.

1.3. Recomendaciones para cursar la asignatura

Prerrequisitos: (conocimientos y/o destrezas previas): Nivel de 2º de bachillerato o similar y, preferentemente, haber superado la asignatura de Teoría e Historia del arte de 1º curso del Grado en Bellas Artes. Conocimiento general de la historia y el arte y en especial de finales del siglo XIX y del siglo XX.

3. Evaluación

3.1. Tipo de pruebas y su valor sobre la nota final y criterios de evaluación para cada prueba

El estudiantado deberá demostrar que ha alcanzado los resultados de aprendizaje previstos mediante las siguientes actividades de evaluación

El alumnado será evaluado a partir del método de evaluación continua, basado en el sistema metodológico participativo propuesto para la asignatura y se tendrán en cuenta tres conceptos en partes iguales. Por ello el alumnado, para ser evaluado, deberá realizar:

A. Sistema de evaluación continua:
- Trabajo individual (30%): análisis de un texto al final del primer bloque de contenido de la asignatura. El alumnado deberá responder a varias preguntas sobre una lectura indicada por el profesorado al inicio del curso.

  1. - Informe de prácticas (30%): realización de la catalogación y comentario de varias imágenes al final del segundo bloque de la asignatura. El estudiantado deberá identificar, catalogar y explicar dos o más imágenes propuestas por el profesorado de entre las analizadas previamente en las clases.

    - Examen (30 %): realización de un examen al final del tercer bloque de contenidos. El examen consistirá en el desarrollo de un tema a elegir entre dos. El alumnado deberá desarrollar un tema propuesto por el profesorado en el tiempo indicado.

    -Tutorización y participación en clase (10%).

    Para optar a la evaluación continua será necesario asistir al menos al 85% de las clases.

    Criterios de evaluación: Se valorará la corrección de los contenidos expuestos, la capacidad de análisis y de síntesis del alumno, su capacidad de realizar una exposición razonada y ordenada, así como el uso adecuado de la terminología artística, la buena presentación y la corrección formal y ortográfica.

B. Prueba global de evaluación (a realizar en la fecha fijada en el calendario académico)

- Examen (50%): Realización de un examen, en el que el alumnado deberá responder a los dos enunciados propuestos por el profesorado sobre diferentes cuestiones relacionadas con el temario de la asignatura.
- Informe de prácticas (25%): Realización de la catalogación y comentario de varias imágenes pertenecientes a cualquiera de los bloques temáticos de la asignatura. El estudiantado deberá identificar, catalogar y explicar las imágenes propuestas por el profesorado de entre las analizadas previamente en las clases. Esta prueba escrita, de carácter práctico, se realizará inmediatamente después del examen.
- Trabajo individual (25%): Realización de una prueba teórica relacionada con un texto relativo a la asignatura. El alumnado deberá responder a varias preguntas sobre una lectura indicada por el profesorado al inicio del curso. El trabajo final se realizará al finalizar el informe de prácticas.

II. Segunda convocatoria

Prueba global de evaluación (a realizar en la fecha fijada en el calendario académico).

Esta prueba global de evaluación incluirá las mismas pruebas que en la primera convocatoria y su mismo cómputo, alcanzado un total de 100%. Los criterios de evaluación son los mismos.

4. Metodología, actividades de aprendizaje, programa y recursos

4.1. Presentación metodológica general

El proceso de aprendizaje que se ha diseñado para esta asignatura se basa en lo siguiente:

Combinando la exposición teórica de contenidos con la proyección de materiales audiovisuales. Clases con presentación de imágenes, complementadas con la lectura e interpretación de los principales manifiestos de vanguardia y con la participación del alumnado, al término de cada lección, a través del debate y la reflexión crítica. Cuando la ocasión lo requiera se proyectarán películas y vídeos como apoyo a la docencia. Tanto las clases teóricas como los ejercicios están orientados a fomentar la participación del estudiantado. Se facilitará la intervención del alumnado, a través de debates y exposiciones en clase. Estas exposiciones, deben entenderse como una aproximación personal a los aspectos tratados en clase y deben estar basadas en lecturas o análisis críticos de los contenidos de la asignatura. Actividades académicas dirigidas, con trabajos autónomos (con búsqueda de información, reflexión escrita, dibujada y expuesta; debates y presentaciones públicas de trabajos). Conferencias, visitas a edificios y museos y viajes.

El programa de actividades formativas que se ofrece al estudiantado para lograr los resultados de aprendizaje previstos es el siguiente:

1) Clases teóricas: adoptarán el formato de exposiciones orales por parte del profesorado de los contenidos teóricos de la asignatura en el ámbito del aula (lecciones magistrales).

2) Clases prácticas (en el aula o fuera del aula con el profesorado). Consistirán en:

-Prácticas de análisis, comentario e interpretación de imágenes mediante la proyección de las mismas y discusión en clase, aplicando diferentes metodologías.

-Comentario y análisis de los problemas fundamentales de la asignatura.

-Comentario y análisis de fuentes y textos.

-Podrá realizarse alguna visita práctica programada para aplicar los conocimientos adquiridos tanto en el aula como mediante el trabajo personal del alumnado, analizando sobre el terreno las cuestiones abordadas en las clases teóricas y prácticas.

3) El estudio personal (asimilación de los contenidos expuestos en las clases teóricas y prácticas, lectura y estudio de la bibliografía recomendada, preparación previa personal de los comentarios y análisis de textos y fuentes), así como la preparación de las actividades prácticas y del trabajo personal del alumnado.

4) Tutorías: el tiempo dedicado a la orientación del aprendizaje del alumnado, a la discusión de los problemas surgidos en el desarrollo de la asignatura, y a la explicación y revisión de las tareas encomendados al alumnado.

La exposición de contenidos se realizará mediante la presentación o explicación por parte del profesorado (y en la medida de lo posible de colaboradores externos cuando sea apropiado para un tema específico) pero, del mismo modo, el periodo de instrucción estará basado en contribuciones orales o escritas del estudiantado. Las clases teóricas estarán a acompañadas de imágenes y textos que se correspondan con lo tratado en clase o cualquier otro material de interés para el alumnado como vídeos o documentales.
